Lyle Bauer, #59: Remembering a Winnipeg Blue Bombers Champion and Community Hero (1958-2024)

Statement from the family written by Danni Bauer (Lyle’s favourite daughter):
With heavy hearts, we had to say see you later to an incredible human. Lyle Bauer rode off into his final sunset surrounded by his family, we know he was revving the engine of his Harley-Davidson as he hit the road.
To us, Lyle, though physically gone will continue to be our centre. Throughout his life, he brought joy, comfort, and a drive to make change in his community. After his journey with cancer in 2004, he created Never Alone Cancer Foundation, which supports other individuals’ journeys with cancer. He was also a hell of a fisherman and taught a lot of us to fish.
His life was full of accomplishments that we have been able to be a part of from the hog line with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 1982-1991, which resulted in three Grey Cup Championships, to turning the team’s financial struggles around as CEO and President from 2000-2009, he was a force to be reckoned with. The accomplishment he was the proudest of was his family, whom he loved with all of his heart. He spent his final years making his grandson Lennon Lyle Bauer (Wesley and Brittany) laugh, building his and Heidi’s future cabin in BC with a lot of help from his handyman son, Brodie, and traveling from Utah, to Calgary and BC to spend time with his friends and family.
There are a lot of lucky dogs up there with him, as Lyle was a magnet for all dogs that instantly fell in love with him, and it wasn’t just because of the treats he always carried in his pocket.
The loss of Lyle will be felt forever, and we know he will be a guiding force from above. Forever 59, rest easy daddy-o, we love you.
In celebration of Lyle’s life, we ask you to consider donating to Never Alone Cancer Foundation (www.nacf.ca).

A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
